Where to Find the Four Keys
South Hell keys are hidden in school lockers, and finding all four gets you closer to opening the basement exit. Listen for jingling to narrow your search instead of opening lockers without paying attention. Finding a key is only half the job—you still need to carry it back while Cartman hunts through the school.
The four key colors are yellow, red, blue, and green. Search lockers throughout the school, then bring each key to the exit door in the basement.
Before heading out, learn the route back from the starting area. Getting lost with a key wastes flashlight power and leaves you exposed longer than necessary.

Search Lockers and Listen for Jingling
A locker containing a key makes a jingling sound. Use headphones so you can pick out that cue among the footsteps, phones, and other school noises.

Work through an area deliberately:
- Listen near each bank of lockers. Follow the jingling toward the locker you need to search.
- Open and inspect the lockers. You can also find money, batteries, and useful equipment during the search.
- Leave searched lockers open. Give your team a visible reminder of where someone has already looked.
- Tell teammates where you find another key. You can carry only one key at a time, so someone else can collect it while you make a delivery.
Split your search across different rooms instead of following everyone down the same hallway. Use room signs and recognizable landmarks to describe a find: “near the theater” gives a teammate more direction than “over here.”
Keep optional tasks separate from the key hunt. Ringing school bells, finding Ike’s rubber duck, and answering a ringing phone are extra objectives; completing them does not replace searching for the exit keys.
Carry Each Key Back to the Basement
Once you pick up a key, prioritize delivering it. Continuing to search with one already in your inventory can leave you standing beside another key you cannot collect.

Use this delivery routine:
- Retrace your route toward the basement exit.
- Watch your stamina and avoid unnecessary sprinting.
- Interact with the exit door to put the key into its lock.
- Return to searching for the remaining colors.
Keep the path around the exit clear. Shoving teammates or crowding the doorway makes an already tense return harder to manage.
If your team is stuck searching for the last key, ask everyone to check whether they are carrying it. A key sitting in someone’s inventory still needs to reach the door.
Avoid Losing the Return Trip to Cartman
Running makes noise, and stepping on broken glass is loud. Walk when you have room to do so, steer around glass, and save your stamina for an actual chase.

Lockers also provide hiding spots. Follow the hiding prompt once inside, and avoid climbing into one directly in front of Cartman.
Distraction items can help create an opening, but keep moving rather than waiting beside them:
- Alarm clocks: Place one away from your intended route to draw Cartman toward its ringing.
- Fried chicken: Throw it toward Cartman as a distraction, then watch his movement before committing to the hallway.
- Bear traps: Use them along a chase route to interrupt his pursuit.
Keep an eye on your flashlight battery while searching. Pick up spare batteries when you find them, and use your light to navigate dark areas. Darkness raises insanity, making an extended search harder to manage.
What to Do When the Exit Door Is Jammed
Delivering every key can lead to another objective: finding cranking parts for a jammed exit door. When that prompt appears, switch from searching lockers for keys to looking for the highlighted white parts on the floor.
Spread the team across separate areas and call out the rooms you have searched. Avoid sending everyone after the same part while other sections remain untouched.
Follow the current objective text. If it asks for cranking parts, keep searching for those parts; when it announces that the exit is open, head back to the basement door and escape.
